Magnetic imbalances and NVH issues get more expensive the later you find them. Koob test benches measure the magnetic field of permanent-magnet and externally excited rotors in as little as 8 seconds, fully automated, with 100% end-of-line inspection. From prototype to series production.

Advantages

Why measure the magnetic field

Electric motors work through the interplay of electric currents and magnetic fields. The quality and orientation of those fields set the torque, the efficiency and the smooth running of the machine. Testing them is therefore decisive in securing the motor’s performance, reliability and service life.

Our test systems enable high-resolution analysis of the magnetic fields in permanent-magnet and externally excited rotors — contactless, automated and in real time. The results are valuable across the entire product life cycle: from validating early prototypes, through in-line inspection in series production, to targeted maintenance in operation.

Torque
Flux density in the rotor sets what the motor can deliver
Efficiency
Better material use, lower weight and size for e-mobility
Smooth run
Magnetic imbalance is where NVH complaints start

What a measurement gives you

  1. Detect Design and Manufacturing Defects

Deviations in the magnetic field reveal incorrectly installed magnets, demagnetized components, or misaligned rotors before the part leaves the production line.

  2. Reduce Power Loss Through Optimal Pairing

Calibrated parts are specifically paired: a strong rotor is matched with a weaker counterpart. The result is more consistent performance and higher yield.

  3. Validate Simulations Using the Actual Part

Measurements show whether the simulated magnetic field matches reality. This forms the basis for reliable drives at OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

  4. Verifying EMC in Sensitive Areas

Magnetic stray fields can interfere with sensors and control units in medical technology and the automotive industry. Measurements detect them early on.

  5. Early Detection of Damage During Operation

Demagnetization and mechanical damage leave traces in the magnetic field. This enables targeted maintenance rather than blanket maintenance, resulting in less downtime.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Can you measure our motor without us buying a test bench?

Yes. With our contract measurement service we measure and analyse your rotors for you — in our test lab or, at plants in Germany, directly on-site with our mobile test benches, using a sensor array or a single sensor as your task requires.

You receive a 3D model of the magnetic field together with the measurement data, for example to compare against your simulation.

More on contract measurement
How do you detect faults you cannot see on the rotor?

Electric motors are quiet, which makes unwanted noise and vibration (NVH) stand out all the more. One main cause is magnetic imbalance in the rotor. Our test systems measure polarity, pole strength and pole symmetry, and so detect deviations that would otherwise only become noticeable in the finished drive.

How do our test systems contribute to structured fault detection and prevention (FMEA)?

In electric motors, even the smallest faults on the rotor or bearings can lead to a loss of performance or to total failure. An FMEA helps to identify and prevent such faults systematically, before they occur. Koob’s magnetic field test systems and 3D scanners reliably detect typical fault patterns such as irregular magnetic fields or dimensional deviations, so that faulty components are never installed in the first place.
